The Frigate

The Frigate Class, is any ship that is made for Combat that has a crew of more than 20, up to 140 but the average is about 80. Types include:
Frigates, Heavy Gun Ships, Artillery Frigate, Heavy Patrol Ships, Fleet Escort Ships, Missile Frigates, and Heavy Scout Ships.

- Frigates are the bread and butter unit of any fleet. Its the type of ship that can do it all. They are still small enough to be able to take down fighters, while strong enough to in pack take down a larger capital vessel. This class is commonly found in orbit around almost any inhabited world that has a fair amount of trade, in attempts to stop pirates and raiders. This class also caries 2 fighters as a standard to help extend its range of effectiveness.
- Heavy Gun Ships, like their Corvette counterparts tend to pack much more firepower than the conventional Frigate, while maintaining defences, and a similar size. Thou again like the smaller counterpart there is a drop in speed, and agility when compared to the standard. In general only seen in large quantizes in wars. During peace time the only time you will see one of these is in war games, and large pirate hunting operations.
- Made primarily for long range bombardment of a target. Often used in planetary assaults as they can easily hit targets on the surface with a fair amount of accuracy. Also used in operations where a small group, or pack of Frigates need to take on the much larger destroyer class ships. Again not often found during peace time.
- Heavy Patrol Ships are like their smaller cousins, they can take a beating a survive to tell the tale. This tends to have one of the largest crews of the Frigate class, at its max of 140 people. Its defences, weapons, and speed are key to its success, being primarily used to Patrol outer territories, to prevent incursions, and during war time to assault enemy capital ship formations and as escort to carrier groups. If and when it works with other ships they are usually classed as a Patrol vessel as well. This type can carry up to 4 fighters.
- Fleet Escort Ships are capable support vessels. They almost always carry a fighter complement of at least 2 with the max at 6. They are often equipped with anti-fighter weapons as well as anti-capital ship torpedoes. With these armaments they can stand ground and keep enemy ships away from the valuable large capital ships which they are defending. A common place vessel, seen in most large systems.
- Missile Frigates are heavy duty long range vessels that take out enemies with rockets, missiles and torpedoes. They tend to have inferior armour, and energy based defences, but have capable engines allowing them to get with range fire off several salvos, then run again. Due to its nature it is almost exclusively used as a hit and run vessel, who can deal bunch, but cant take it back.
- Heavy Scout Ships perform the same duties as the corvette class ships. During peace they are dispatched on scientific missions as well as used as cargo vessels. They are built for speed, and jump range, having the most powerful frigate class jump drive. During war are used in deep space recon, far from reinforcements. Its stealth armour allows it to be within sensor range, but still not be detected, thou this same armour is relatively weak when compared to standard hull materials.
